I am having one of those mornings... a morning that comes around a lot lately. One of those mornings where you have to pinch yourself because, Really?? Is this really my life? What have I done to be so blessed. I am sitting here with my sweet baby boy ( who is now busy playing with the remote control ) while I quickly jot down these thoughts so I can later look at it later( on a day where I am not seeing things as clearly ). I am looking at my son with complete awe. I never would have dreamed another person could bring me so much absolute joy. There is no better way to explain it. I am truly filled up for the first time in my life. I always felt like something was missing... until now.

But that's not all. I had the glorious opportunity to sleep in until 9am today!!! Why, because I am married to a man that gives himself to our marriage 100% and shares ALL of the parenting joys and duties with me 50/50. He woke me this morning ONLY because he had to leave for work. I am sure that one of the reasons I love wedding photography, is because I want everyone to get to experience the kind of happiness, fun and fulfillment that I get out of having a true partner for life.

But still, that's not all. I am inspired by all of this gratitude and that inspiration will be put to use today while photographing LeeAnn + Matt's wedding, here in Carolina Beach, NC. Waking up the day of a wedding is always exciting. Another opportunity to capture love, emotion and LIFE! I live for emotion. It feeds me. I love laughter, but I also love tears because you can't have one without the other. I am so honored and so blessed to get to spend my "work days" creating art out of people's memories.
In just a few short hours, I will have my toes in the sand and a camera in my hands, LIFE IS GOOD!

To end this post, I am going to share with you a slideshow featuring the work of the wonderfully talented Dana Jackson Photography. It is very clear in this video why I am so happy : ) Add in the husband and the dream job, and I am pretty much living the dream!

This is the 2nd time I got to photograph this gorgeous family, but the first time with Braxton on the outside : ) I spent time with them at Fort Fisher for their maternity session, and this time we headed downtown to Greenfield Park for the family session. These wonderful people are not just clients but also friends, so it meant a lot to me to be able to capture some beautiful family moments. I love little Braxton sooo much. He is so adorable, so sweet and just plain lovable.

Wilmington NC Wedding. Sarah and Jimmy. Teasers Part II

Sarah + Jimmy got married in Holly Ridge, NC on a beautiful open landscape. This was a treat for Amy + I, because if you know much about CA, there aren't a lot of trees, or open land. ;)

Sarah looked so beautiful and Jimmy cried during the ceremony... My favorite! Nothing better than seeing a groom in tears over the love of his life. The rain didn't ruin their wedding, and luckily it stayed away long enough for us to create some beautiful portraits. We did end up moving into the tent for the ceremony, but the bride and groom could have cared less! As long as they were married, they were happy. Steve Allen, Sarah's dad, is a pastor and he married them! I have no idea how he held it together, but sure enough he did, and it was so beautiful. I have to send a huge thank you to Jane Allen, Sarah's mom, for being so involved in everything! This wedding wouldn't have happened without her love and attention to detail. Jane has a great eye, and a passion for beautiful images, so we of course felt honored to be the chosen photographer.

Below are some of my favorite images from the wedding. The rain didn't spoil this day, in fact, it kind of added to the beauty and excitement.

Theresa and Derek got married at the beautiful Kona Kai Resort on a perfectly gorgeous January day in San Diego. This is a great example of how San Diego is a perfect wedding destination any time of year.

One thing is quite obvious about this couple... GORGEOUS!! Theresa is also so incredibly sweet, and Derek has a smile that lights up a room. Patty couldn't say enough good things about this couple. There really is nothing better than working with two people that are so obviously in love and meant to be :)

A Place to call Home. North Carolina Boudoir Photographer

I have hinted about our new boudoir location, and I am finally ready to share the full details : )

I had the pleasure of meeting with the ladies at 128 South, a few weeks ago. If you aren't familiar, it is a gorgeous wedding venue in downtown Wilmington. While we were chatting, I mentioned that I also specialize in boudoir, and have been looking for a place to call home. I really want an awesome location Downtown, but rather than having a studio, I want something where I can have a little variety!! It was then that I found out Mira also owns Stemmerman's Inn, located right next door!!!! I checked out the rooms, and well... It's absolutely perfect! Mira and her co-owner have been extremely welcoming to us and are excited to have us use their space for our sessions.

I am so excited about this new space, and I have been dying to share some pictures with you. If you are interested in booking a session remember that all of the package include a room rental at Stemmerman's Inn!

Jackson's 1st day at the Beach. Wilmington NC Portrait Photographer

Today was a beautiful day in Wilmington! 65 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. Mondays are supposed to be a work day for me, but I couldn't resist getting outside with my boys and enjoying this early spring weather!!! We decided to take Jack to the beach so he could put his little toes in the sand for the first time. He LOVED it!!! Had it not been a bit windy and chilly, we probably would have stayed all day!

Today is a big day for Jack. 1st was the beach, and next he get's to eat real food : ) Stay Tuned...

I am finally getting around to posting some photos from our bridal show last Sunday! Jeremy did an amazing job building my wall, Mo helped with all the little details, and Amy was helpful enough to go with Jer to set up while I was home with Jack :) I arrived to my booth fully functioning and ready to go.

Baby Quinn. 1 year session.

You might remember baby Quinn from our 3 month session a while back. I can't believe he is already a year old. This reminds me to take in every minute with Jack because they really do grow up so fast!!

Poor baby Quinn was not feeling well at all the day of our session. He had been up all night the night before. Luckily thanks to help from his mama Carole and his aunt Cheryle, we were able to get some smiles :)

Rana + Ryan's Downtown McKinley Grand Wedding. Part II Canton Ohio Wedding

Rana and Ryan fell in love many many years ago. It was so beautiful listening to their vows on their wedding day because you could feel the unconditional love between them. It was a true honor to photograph such a beautiful couple, inside and out! These two love birds also have a precious 6 month old little girl, which makes their love shine that much brighter.

Rana + Ryan, I have no doubt you will have a life filled with love, happiness and humor :)

Their wedding and reception took place at The McKinley Grand hotel in Downtown Canton, Oh on New Years Eve! What a way to ring in the new year :) Rana's classic style was shown by her gorgeous broach bouquet and her beautiful gown that was made by her mother and grandmother.

Linquist Family + baby brother { Zander } Wilmington Portrait Photographer.

I am sure you are all used to seeing The 'other' Linquist Family on my blog :) This is Jeremy's brother, Zach, and his family. They recently welcomed a new addition to their family! Little Zander, or 'baby brother' as Alayna calls him, is 8 weeks old getting cuter by the second. It is hard to believe Alayna is already 3 years old. She is soooo much fun, and she is an amazing big sister to Zander, and also a wonderful cousin to baby Jack :)

It was hard to not go overboard on this post. Here are some of my favorites :)

A Testimonial that just made my day... TWICE :)

I was just cleaning out my inbox when I came across this email from a client. I remember reading it and feeling so grateful and blessed the first time... and I think it meant even more after reading it the second time.

Thank you West family for sharing this with me because I can always pull it out and re-read it if I am having an off day :) I look forward to the next time I get to work with your beautiful family!!!

"Susie, we love them!!! We are ecstatic with how they came out! I'm so glad we had them done! I never did thank you for rescheduling our appointment. Even if you couldn't have rescheduled, I probably would have drug my family out in the rain with their goopy pink eyes and snotty noses b/c this was an opportunity I did not want to pass up!

The pictures made my mom tear up (which is not easy) and they made Nick's mom cry. : )
Without getting too sappy, looking at these pictures made me realize just how lucky and how blessed I am to have such a wonderful husband and two beautiful girls. Not only that, but I was having a rough and challenging week and looking at the pictures, you would never know. I can credit that to you because I was not "feeling" how I came across in the pictures. I look care-free! ; ) I was really worried b/c usually it is written all over my face how I'm feeling. I know I've said it before, but we are not morning people. We don't usually talk to each other until after 9:30-10 in the a.m. b/c we are grumpy and moody and will argue about trivial things like how much coffee goes in the coffee pot...lol...seriously! So I was worried about that too, but again, you would never know that looking at these pictures! You're amazing!!!

I'm having a really hard time choosing pictures because I love them all! Never take for granted this gift that you have because you truly have something special!"

A Full Heart

Today my baby turns 3 months old! Before I met him I thought I knew what unconditional love and happiness felt like... I now realize I had No idea how much love my heart could hold. Carolina Beach Engagement Session. Wilmington NC Wedding and Engagement Photographer

Matt + LeeAnn are getting married this spring in Carolina Beach. I was so excited to book their wedding!! Mostly because LeeAnn is gorgeous and hilarious, and also because I know working with them is going to be so much fun! Matt owns the very popular Shuckin' Shack; A cute little Oyster Bar in Downtown Carolina Beach. I always love starting my engagement sessions off with a cocktail, so we figured there is no better place than the Shack! It took them a minute to warm up in front of the camera, but once they did, they ROCKED it!! I had so much fun on this shoot and I can't wait for the wedding!!!

Next we headed to the CB boardwalk. I love all the bright colors, and since it's November ... all the tourists are gone :)

.. and the perfect way to end the session.. the beach :)

Moving on Up!

I can't believe how fast babies grow out of stuff!! Not just clothes but Everything!! I HAD TO HAVE a swing and a vibrating chair for Jack! Good thing I got these items used because he is almost already grown out of them and he is only 9.5 weeks old! That's a lot of money to spend on something you only use for 2 months. Good thing we are stocked up on the next stages of seats for Jack. I have been waiting patiently for the day that Jack could hold his head up and sit in the super cute Bumbo Seat! Well, the day has arrived and he looks just as cute as I thought he would!

My little Monkey, Peanut, Boober, Cutie Pie, Pumpkin,etc etc. Isn't it funny how we have 8 million nicknames of our little ones :) Sometimes I just stumble over the words that come out of my mouth because he is so cute I can't stand it. Jeremy and I just sit back and laugh at each other. Having a baby is just so much fun!!! :)

Halloween sure is different with a baby :) Normally Jer and I bust out our awesome wig collection and that inspires our costumes. This year, everything revolved around Jackson :) Instead of dressing up and drinking too much, we bought our son a super cute outfit that he wore for 20 mins and cried the entire time. My little guy has no idea what he is in for with his mother being a photographer :) We managed to get some pics of him in between crying sessions. He'll thank us later... at least that's what I'm telling myself...

Introducing Birth Photography: by Susie Linquist

As many of you know, I have recently been introduced to the love of my life, my son, Jackson Edward Linquist :) He is 7.5 weeks old now and I can honestly say these have been the happiest 7.5 weeks of my life... especially since he started sleeping 6 hours straight at night ;)

What some of you may not know is that I had an all natural water birth that took place in my home with CNM (Certified Nurse Midwife), Olivia Marshburn. I watched the film, The Business of Being Born at the start of my pregnancy, and I knew I wanted to have a home birth. It was the most powerful thing I have ever done, and I am so grateful to have had the education and encouragement to really Experience my sons birth! Hearing the words "Reach down and grab your baby, Susie" will be words I remember forever with love and gratitude. I will never forget the moment I pulled my son out of the water and onto my chest.

This was the most magical time in my life and I am so very blessed that my mom was there to photograph these very special moments. I am now a huge supporter of natural birth and capturing the love and strength that every mother has!

I have decided to start offering Birth Photography, and I am so excited about this new endeavor!!! I have always loved working with pregnant women on their maternity photos, and now we can truly come full circle.

Mike + Jackie. Wedding Teasers. San Diego Wedding Photography

Another fabulous wedding photographed by my talented girls! Mike and Jackie's wedding was a special one for us because Mike went to acupuncture school with Jeremy and he is..well.. just an awesome guy!! It made me so happy to see him marrying someone equally as special as he is!! Unfortunately, I was unavailable for their wedding due to Jackson being born just two weeks before their wedding. Lucky for us, they chose to still work with SL photography and have Patty as their primary photographer. It ended up working out that Amy was available as well :)

Although I wasn't present at the wedding, it is quite obvious through these photos that the day was planned with nothing but their love for each other in mind. It was an intimate ceremony with close friends and family, with a lovely lunch reception taking place at Piatti restaurant in La Jolla, CA.

The first thing you'll notice when looking at these is that this groom did pretty well for himself, because his bride is absolutely stunning!!! The second thing you'll notice is that my photographers love their job and love to capture two people in love :)

Introducing Jackson Edward Linquist

I am so very proud to introduce you to my very sweet son, Jackson Edward Linquist :) Jack was born naturally at home in a water birth @ 12:53pm on September 1, 2010. He weighed in at 8lbs 4oz and was 21" long. Jackson was Due August 20, so we waited a little longer than expected... and then with 26 hours of labor... well.. we were ready to meet him!! Let me tell you, he was worth the wait :) I am more in love than I ever dreamed possible. Jackson will be 4 weeks old this coming Wednesday and I am finally getting around to blogging about him. Those of you who have kids, I am sure you understand :)

Prepare yourself... there are a lot of photos here. I guess I am a little obsessed with my baby :)

Natasha and I go way back ;) About 8 years ago, Natasha and Jeremy worked together at Carrabbas Restaurant in Canton, Oh. Once again, thanks to Facebook, Natasha and I reconnected. I remember sitting there one evening drinking some wine and hanging on facebook, and I watched as the newsfeed updated with NATASHA HANCOCK IS ENGAGED TO BRANDON HANNUM. Of course my eyes bugged out.. as they do anytime I see the words engaged, wedding, bride, groom, etc :) I instantly commented to Natasha that I would LOVE to work with her on her wedding! I was blessed enough to be chosen, but because of my bun in the oven, Amy became the official photographer. I was bummed I couldn't be there, but I am having so much fun editing these photos!!! It's almost more fun because I get to be creative with the editing process but I have no idea what to expect!

So far, this wedding is just as beautiful as I expected, and the Bride is even more gorgeous!!! I am still waiting on some of the images to arrive in the mail from our very talented 2nd shooter,David McClain, so I decided we'll start with the engagement session. Since the wedding took place in Columbus, OH and Amy lives in San Diego, they spent some time getting to know the each other with a mini engagement session the evening before the wedding. This is always a great idea because it gives everyone a chance to warm up together, but mostly because it gives the bride and groom a few minutes in their whirlwind wedding weekend to actually BE together.

So, without further chitter chatter, here are some of my favorites from the engagement session :)

I will be posting the wedding teasers within the next couple days ( assuming I don't go into labor :) if that happens, then I will be posting them in a couple weeks ;)

However, Natasha, you are too awesome to not give you little something... so... here are a couple hold you over.... :)

First off, I apologize for the lack of posting going on around here lately! As many of you know, I am due to have a baby ANY DAY NOW ( tomorrow is our due date!!! ), and since I live in the South and the weather is just brutal, there hasn't been much shooting going on! I will be taking off through October to spend time with my new family :) I will be occasionally checking email, so if you are interested in booking a session with myself ( after November ) or with one of my talented associates, please contact us via email and we will get back to you at our earliest convenience.

In the meantime, our blog will still have some eye candy sprinkled in! My associates have some fun shoots coming up, and we'll be sure to share some of their images with you!

I have decided to post a few of my favorite photos from me and Jeremy's maternity session, photographed by my talented associate, Amy Leigh. I have always been a huge fan of Maternity Photography, and it has always been one of my favorite subjects to photograph. I have to say that I am an even bigger believer in having this done now that I have experienced it first hand!!! ... and here's why...

I am so glad I did this!!! I definitely wasn't feeling very "model like" before the session, but looking at these now, I know I will cherish them forever!! If you are expecting and debating whether or not to have this done, do yourself a favor and DO IT!!! Trust me, I know we aren't all lucky to only gain weight in our belly's, and I know we all seem to appear to be much cuter to everyone else, and believe me, I know the last thing you think you want is to have proof of how round your face, and behind has gotten during these long 9 months.... but I can also promise you that when you look back on these photos, you won't see any of that!! All you will see is your round belly and how you were able to create a miracle, a human life... and no matter how round your behind gets, it will never take away from that! :)

Jill and I worked together at Outback Steakhouse many years ago. Once again thanks to Facebook we connected and she came to me to photograph her wedding. Unfortunately, I wasn't available because her wedding was to close to my due date, so she decided to work with my associate Theo. I had so much fun editing these photos because as you'll see, Jill is not just the typical bride with the typical wedding. I think they had the perfect wedding for them, and I think Theo did an amazing job capturing it!

Amanda + John. Vow Renewal. Kure Beach, NC Wedding Photographer

This might just be one of the most romantic stories I have come across in my line of work. A couple months ago I received an email from John asking about my services for a vow renewal. It wasn't until we spoke on the phone that I realized how in love John is with Amanda and how much the last 10 years have meant to him. John and Amanda celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary on Wednesday, July 7th. They planned a vacation to Kure Beach to celebrate, and as far as Amanda was concerned the vacation WAS the celebration. Little did she know that her romantic husband had coordinated a vow renewal to take place on the beach, that she would be wearing a beautiful wedding gown, and there would be a photographer there to capture it all. You see, their first wedding took place at Justice of the Peace, and Amanda had always dreamed of a beach wedding. .... just like the one John gave her on their 10th anniversary.

I was supposed to stop working the end of June because it was just getting tough to get around with this big belly, and it has been in the 90's for the last three months. When I got John's email, I was hesitant. When we spoke on the phone, there was no way I was going to pass this up. I am a sucker for a good love story, which is probably why I love my job so much. This was the last shoot before my maternity leave, and it was a great way to end the summer. Small, Sweet and filled with love. My favorite kind of wedding.

Trinity and Zach are expecting their first baby on August 15th ( just 5 days before baby Linquist is due :)

I met Trinity and Zach in our Bradley Method class, and all it took was a mention that I do maternity photography and Trinity was on board! Lucky for me, she is absolutely gorgeous, and a total natural in front of the camera. I am looking forward to meeting little Braxton and for our boys to play together!!

Hannah is my adorable cousin ( by marriage :) We have been talking about doing her senior portraits at the beach for a long time, and I can't believe she is already going to be a senior!! Hannah was just a little 8 yr old girl when we first met, and she has since grown into a beautiful, sweet, and very respectful young woman! All that, and she is SO GORGEOUS!! She totally rocked this photo shoot, which is why I had such a hard time deciding which ones to share.

Hilary + Scott Maternity Session. Maternity Photographer Wilmington NC and Ohio

This is one of those sessions that I have been anticipating for a really long time! Scott and I met in 7th grade at the Food Fest in Canton Ohio :) I'll never forget that night! It was the same night I met Zach, Jeremy's brother. Had this night never happened, my entire life would be different. Scott was a complete goofball from the second I met him. He was young, rowdy and I have to admit, a little annoying ;) Regardless, there was something captivating about him. After knowing him all these years, I am going to say it was his heart. Scott is one of the most honest and caring people I know, and I am truly honored to have him in my life. All those years ago, I would have never guessed that we would both be becoming parents at the same time!! I love you Scott, and I have NO doubt you are going to be an amazing father! Jake is a lucky boy!!!

Now for mama Hilary :) Scott and Hil met in Cincinnati when Scott was attending college at UC. Hilary also grew up in Canton, however she was a few years older, so I didn't have the pleasure of getting to know her until she and Scott began dating. Here's the funny thing about small towns... Hilary was Jeremy's first kiss!!!! hahaha!! Gotta love it. It is so fun to look back over everything and then sit and think about where we are today. We are all so happy, so blessed and so grateful. The best part of it all, is that Hilary and Scott became parents much sooner than we all anticipated. Hilary's EDD was just 4 short weeks ahead of mine, but 4 days after our photo session, she went into Labor!!!! Their darling son, Jacob Paul, was born six weeks early, and not a moment too soon :) He is darling! I wish I was there to take photos of him, but for now, let's reflect back to when he was still snuggled up inside of his mama :)

I had six amazing shoots while I was in Canton last week. I know everyone is dying to see their photos, and you have all been so patient :)

My first session was with the Szewczyk Family. They welcomed their newest family member Maklin just about 5 weeks ago. This photo was taken when he was 3.5 weeks old :) More to come...

The Second family I photographed is the Barton family. Kristen has truly been asking me to see "just one" since the minute we finished shooting!! She has been so patient and that made choosing "just one" that much harder!!! Here is one I thought was super cute. I'll have more for you soon!!

Downtown Wilmington Wedding of Sarah and Shaun. Teasers Part II

Sarah + Shaun's wedding will be one that I always remember! Meeting them and working with them was one of those experiences where you just know you are on the right path! It was exactly one week after Jeremy and I decided to move to Wilmington when I received an inquiry from Sarah and Shaun regarding their wedding. As soon as the booking was official, I knew it was a sign that we were on the right path! It was confirmation that we were heading in the right direction... and we absolutely were!!!

Sarah + Shaun were married at the Beautiful Greenfield Park near Downtown Wilmington, with a reception to follow at the incredibly delicious Caffe Pheonix! The day was relaxed, the bride was stunning and the love was overflowing! I couldn't have asked for a better couple to work with on my first Wilmington Wedding!

Thank you Sarah + Shaun for this experience :)

Linquist Family. Lifestyle Session, N. Canton Ohio

Photographing the "other Linquist Family" is always fun! Alayna, my beautiful niece is LOVED by the camera, and the older she gets the more fun we have during our sessions! This was the first formal shoot we have done since she was 11 months, and now she is a very mature 2 1/2 :) We decided to do an "Easter" theme session and take advantage of Alayna's beautiful spring wardrobe :)

Looking forward to our next session with the newest addition!! Christie and Zach are expecting baby #2 at the end of this year! Yay for more Linquist kiddos :)!!!

Lindsay, Nick and I went to High School together a long time ago :) I never would have thought that years later I would be photographing these two and their gorgeous girls! After having to reschedule due to Ohio weather, we ended up shooting in the morning, before anyone had their coffee :) This is something Lindsay filled me in on later... and also something you would never guess by looking at these photos. There is so much LIFE in these photos :) Lindsay + Nick: I know we only spent an hour together, but I can honestly say your kids are incredible and you are excellent parents!!

Justine and Steve are two very special people! Not only are they beautiful, giving, and generous, but their wedding was the first I ever photographed! It was 2002, and I was in the middle of my photography program at Kent State. Justine and Steve didn't have a huge budget for their wedding, and were potentially Not going to have a wedding photographer! A little terrified and very excited I stepped up for the job. I offered my services in exchange for experience. It was on their wedding day that I found a new love. I had discovered my passion for capturing the most precious moments in people's lives. I am so blessed that they chose me for such an important job, because it laid the groundwork for my entire life. I can't imagine doing anything else, and I can't imagine loving something even half as much.

All that said, Justine and Steve have been married for 8 years, and it was time they updated their family photo album. We spent some time in Downtown Akron, because it is the home of the couple, and Steve is very proud of his small town :) Their love and happiness for life and each other is very obvious in these photos. It was so good to finally meet Natalie and her boys! Natalie and I were introduced by my dear friend Liz, and we have been facebook buddies for about 8 months! When I was in Ohio she scheduled a session of her and her boys as a surprise for her husband. It was Natalie's idea to go to the Brecksville Nature Center, and it was Awesome!!! We had so much fun, and the boys are so super cute!!!

I met Campbell's parents at Sarah + Matt's wedding last October. Shortly after, Maggie contacted me to see if I would be able to come to Boston to photograph her little girl. As you know, I love to travel, so I made the trip this spring. Little Campbell is 9months in these photos and happy and content as can be. It was an absolute pleasure photographing this adorable family in their beautiful home.

Rhea + Matt. Coronado Wedding

Rhea and Matt got married in Coronado on Monday, March 21st. It was a very intimate ceremony including close friends and family. I had the honor of returning to San Diego for this wedding, and I was so happy I did. Rhea + Matt are so in love, and the camera is in love with them as well. Rhea's dress was made by a local designer, Sunny Nelson. It was a great way to make sure she had the dress of her dreams :)

I have to start by saying I just adore this little family!! When two fantastic people decide to procreate, it's pretty much a guarantee they are going to have an awesome addition to their family.

I met Heather and Joshua a few years ago, and had the pleasure of photographing their wedding. Last year I got the call that they were expecting and I was thrilled to once again work with them at such a special time in their lives. I just happen to be going back to San Diego when Heather was wanting photos of little Bayli, and it worked out so perfectly that I was available to photograph this beautiful family. It was hard to imagine Bayli not being there! They are such natural parents, you would think they have been doing it for years.

Patty + Andy. Maternity Session

I have had the pleasure of spending the last 4 days in San Diego, visiting with friends, eating yummy food, and working... a lot :) I came out for Patty's Baby Shower, and while I was here I photographed a wedding, boudoir session, maternity session and a family session! To say I am exhausted would be an understatement!!! It was a fabulous weekend non-the-less, and over the next 2 weeks you will have a lot of eye candy on our blog, so check back often!!

The best part is there is much more to come!! Next week I am traveling to D.C. for a boudoir session, and the following week I am headed to Boston, and Ohio. I am getting as much traveling in as I can before this baby comes :) !!!! If you are in one of these cities and you are interested in booking a session, please let us know :)

Oh, and in midst all of this, I will find out if my baby is a boy or girl,celebrate my 30th Birthday and move into my new home in Wilmington!!

Leslie contacted me about photographing her + Nick's engagement session while I was packing things up in California. Leslie and Nick are a super cool couple, and I will always remember them because they were my first ever photo shoot in NC! I had wanted to photograph in Downtown Wilmington since the first time I was there, and it completely lived up to my expectations :)

We started their session at The Caffe Phoenix on Front Street so they could have a cocktail and warm up :) After that we just roamed around and had fun!!

Leslie + Nick: It was so great meeting and working with you both! I wish I was available to photograph your wedding! Hopefully we'll have the opportunity to work together again in the future ;)

Hello Wilmington !!!!!!!

I am officially an East Coaster! Mo, Lucy and I flew in Sunday and we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Jeremy, his dad and a giant truck containing everything I own!! They are somewhere in Mississippi right now! They are making excellent time, and I feel so blessed that I'm not in that truck with them ;)

Most of you know that Jeremy and I are expecting our first baby this August. Once we got that news we quickly changed our travel plans to include me on an airplane with a bathroom and lots of snacks ;) A cross country trip isn't exactly what a pregnant woman craves!!!

So, I have been here three days and although I am currently homeless, I am truly enjoying myself. Obviously, I am not technically homeless, as we are staying with Mo + Randy ( Jer's parents) and I am so thankful to have this option. We have been house hunting for the last 6 weeks and although we have come close, we haven't found our perfect home yet. I know it will open up at just the right time!!!

In the meantime I have been enjoying my family's company, including my sister and niece. It feel so good to know that I am not leaving them again any time soon!

The most exciting news is that I just booked my first session in Downtown Wilmington! Yay Leslie + Nick!!!!! We will be doing their engagement session on March 7, and I honestly can hardly wait, I'm so excited!!!! I have always wanted to do an engagement session in Downtown Wilmington. So, stay tuned for that session in a couple weeks. I am hopefully going to have the chance to get out and explore with my camera over the next week, so hopefully I'll be posting some eye candy then!!

Hayden. 6 month session

I am sure you all remember adorable Hayden! First from his mom's maternity session, and then from his newborn session! Julie and Andy ( aka mom + dad) are great friends of ours, so I'm just a little bit in love with this little boy! One look into his precious blue eyes, and it's all over :)

It was important to all of us that we had one more session before moving day! Not only am I leaving town, but so are they! I photographed Julie and Andy's wedding two years ago at Quail Botanical Gardens, so we figured that would be the perfect place for our last session together!

Julie + Andy, you're beautiful and I love you... but this post is all about Hayden ;)

I Love this one! Hayden discovered grass and sticks for the first time! He is 6 months old, so of course it only took about 1/2 a second for it to end up in his mouth! I love his expression :)

Guilt Free Chocolate Cake :)

If you live in San Diego, then you are enjoying the lovely sound of rain falling from the sky. Whenever it rains ( rarely ) I get the need to bake :) As you know I stay away from Gluten, Sugar and Dairy as much as possible. I know what some of you are thinking and your wrong, my cakes are just as delicious as the junk filled ones, but they don't make you feel like crap after eating them!!

I came home last night and decided to bake, only if we had all the ingredients in the house. Luckily, we had everything needed for this yummy chocolate cake :)

So, next time you are making a treat for your family, consider this healthier alternative!

I typically make this a two layer cake, so that is the recipe I'm going to provide.

INGREDIENTS
2 cups of Quinoa Flour/or Brown Rice Flour
3/4 cup of Ghirardeli UNSWEETENED Cocoa
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda (aluminum free)
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup of butter or applesauce
1 1/2 cup of Raw Agave Nectar
2 tsp vanilla
2 large eggs
1 1/3 cup of almond milk
1/2 cup of mixed berries, frozen or fresh

Icing - I have no measurements for this. I just mix it to taste :)
Ghirardeli unsweetened cocoa
agave nectar
cinnamon
vanilla
almond milk

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350F. Grease and lightly flour two 9"x1-1/2" round cake pans. In a medium bowl, combine flour, cocal, aking power, baking soda and salt;set aside. In a large bowl, cream butter(or applesauce) and agave on medium high speed until light and fluffy, about 4 minutes. Reduce speed to low and add vanilla and eggs one at a time, scraping bowl after each addition. Alternately add flour mixture and milk ( starting and ending with the flour mixture) while mixing on low speed. Continue to mix until smooth. Bake for 30-35 mins or until a cake tester inserted in the center comes out clean.

Hello Friends. I am sorry I have been M.I.A for a couple weeks. As you know Jeremy, Lucy ( our cat :) and I are moving to Wilmington, NC ( Carolina Beach to be exact. ) NEXT MONTH!!!! Can you believe it. We made the decision last July when my sister and niece were here. We gave ourselves six months, and it is almost here.

We spent last week in Wilmington Apt. hunting, and working on finding Jer a clinic to open his own Acupuncture Practice. I also had the opportunity to stop in at a Bridal Expo and meet some of the talented Wedding Vendors in Wilmington. My first impression is keeping me very optimistic. Every vendor I spoke with was so kind, helpful and welcoming. I am really looking forward to working with them in the future!!!

We are waiting to hear back about the cutest townhouse. As soon as we saw it we fell in love. The selling point is a big fenced in back yard, something you rarely see in southern California :)

Below are a few pictures of Harbour Point, the community we are hoping to live! There aren't a lot, but it definitely shows the southern charm :)

If we end up moving there, I'll post more of my own pics :)

As for Jer, he found a space to build his practice. The best part is that he'll be joining a group of holistic practitioners that share his passion for preventative and natural medicine.

We haven't even moved there yet and we have already met so many wonderful people. It is so hard to leave San Diego, but we are very optimistic that we will learn to love Wilmington just as much.

So, that's our update :) Patty and I both have some fun sessions coming up including Belly's and Babies, so stay tuned for some fun posts next week!

My brother, Max, and his family are 4 of my favorite people in this world! They lived in England for 7 years, and moved back to the U.S. last September. They are currently living in Sunnyvale, Ca. It has been so much fun living so close to them again! Jeremy and I headed up to Sunnyvale to spend Christmas with The Lehmans :) We realized a while back that they have never had an official family photo session! Kiet + Brian got married on December 5th at Cuvier park, following an intimate Tea Ceremony at the Brides home. I have had SO many people asking me about this recipe, so I decided to post it again in case you are unable to find it :)

Enjoy!!!

I was trying something completely new this year, and decided to have a trial run....just in case! Last night I made my first Gluten Free/Sugar Free/Dairy Free Pumpkin Pie...and let me tell ya....AMAZING!!!! I was a little worried, because I got the recipe from Karina's Kitchen and she doesn't make hers sugar free. I always use Agave Nectar as my Sugar substitute and I was worried this might keep it from solidifying. However, I did my research and just added a 1/2 tablespoon extra of Tapioca flour and it did the job! I am so excited to be able to offer my guests a healthy and delicious dessert on Thanksgiving. I have included the recipe below in case you are interested!

Vegan Pumpkin Pie

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 9-inch glass pie plate.

In a food processor bowl add:

1 14 or 15-oz can pumpkin
1 1/2 cups plain hemp milk (yes, it must be hemp or coconut..not soy or rice)
2 teaspoons bourbon vanilla
3/4 cup Agave Nectar
1/2 cup buckwheat flour
2 1/2 tablespoons tapioca starch/flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon or pie spice
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

Cover and process until smooth and creamy. Stop and scrape the sides of the bowl, if necessary to incorporate all of the dry ingredients.

Pour into the prepared pie plate and smooth evenly. Bake in the center of a preheated oven for about an hour until done. The pie should be firm- but still give a little when lightly touched. The center should not be wet. It will fall a bit as it cools.

Cool the pie on a wire rack completely. Cover and chill in the refrigerator until serving.

Makes 8 slices.

Exciting News!!!! Susie Linquist Photography is expanding!!!

Well, it's about time we come out with the truth :) Yes, the rumors are true! Susie Linquist Photography will be opening another location in Wilmington, NC this coming March. The good news is, this means we are now photographing fabulous people from Coast to Coast and Beyond! Amy and Patty will continue to work in San Diego, and I will mostly be covering weddings on the East Coast. I will be flying back to San Diego as often as possible to work, as well. As of now in 2010 we are booked in San Diego, Wilmington, NYC, Virginia, Ohio and Boston! We are very excited about our expansion, and we hope you are too! So, please tell your friends, family, neighbors, facebook friends, twitter followers, etc etc, that Wherever you are, we will come to you to photograph your wedding, engagement, boudoir session, portrait session, etc :)

Now for the big question... Why?! Well, Jeremy and I moved to San Diego 5.5 years ago for him to attend Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. He has since graduated and is practicing acupuncture locally. When I moved here, I had no idea what I was going to do, who I was going to meet, and to be honest, I was quite terrified. I had absolutely no idea what life was going to be like, but something inside told me I was supposed to come here, risk everything and open my studio. So I did. That is often how life is for me. I am guided to do something so I do it, and usually the results are surprisingly fantastic. I wake up every morning and I am in complete AWE of my life. I have created the most unbelievable lifestyle for myself out here, that sometimes I feel like I live in some magical world, just outside of reality. I have made, and continue to make such amazing friendships. Because of my job, I make my own schedule which allows me to go to the beach on a Tuesday, sleep in till 9 or hey, even 10 if I feel like it :) Simply put, I am Blessed, and I know it.

About three months ago, my sister and niece came out to visit and we had the most amazing time together. The time came for them to leave, and it was just too hard saying goodbye.... Again! Jeremy and I looked at each other, and for the first time in almost 6 years, we knew the winds of change had blown our way. We decided almost immediately to relocate to Wilmington. Not only is my family there, but Jeremy's family is as well. It's funny how perspective changes as we get older. The tall palm trees, blue skies and perfect climate of Southern California are no longer what matters most. Being with family, not just on the holidays, but on an ordinary Wednesday, is what matters most. Listening to what I am guided to do has always led me in the right direction, so I am sure this time will be no different.

I want to say that Living in San Diego for the last 5.5 years has been a dream come true, literally! I will say that I have the best friends, and work with The Best in the industry. Encinitas will always have a special place in my heart, and so will all the people who have enriched my life while being here.

I had the pleasure of Working with Cara and Brian a few months ago. They recently had a very intimate wedding ceremony with just the two of them and a friend with a camera :) Since they didn't have a professional photographer, they hired me to do a couple session with them after the wedding. It looks more like an engagement session because of the outfits, but the ridiculous smiles, and gorgeous rings prove it is in fact a Post-Wedding Session :)

Cara and Brian chose to go with an album, so instead of posting individual images, I figured I would share some pages from their album.

No Gluten No Sugar NO BAKE :)

It's dessert time again :) I have had a lot of people comment on my recipes so I'm going to keep sharing! Since the holidays are approaching I am working extra hard to stay healthy! I am going to try to lose weight instead of gain it this year!! The Challenge is on :) It does make it a little harder when the sweet tooth kicks in! Having a gluten intolerance used to make it easy to skip dessert, but now they have an entire isle at the grocery store dedicated to GLUTEN FREE! Don't get me wrong, I love how much easier it is to eat gluten free! The problem is that most of these items are still packed with Sugar, and when it comes to weight gain, that's the Killer! So, this is where the creativity kicks in! I had a engagement session this afternoon ( more on that later :) so I wasn't up to baking anything crazy tonight, and that's where the No Bake idea came from :)

They are even more delicious because I made them while listening to my favorite Christmas CD! Something about Chocolate and Christmas just puts a smile on my face, especially when there is no guilt hiding underneath :)

Try them out and let me know what you think : )

Ingredients:

Unsweetened Ghirardelli Chocolate Powder
Creamy Almond or Peanut Butter
Vanilla
Cinnamon
Agave Nectar
Almond or Regular Milk
Gluten Free/Sugar Free Rice Krispies (I use Erewin brand)

To be honest I just threw this together, so this is more of a "guesstimate" recipe. I suggest just adding to taste :)

I started by putting a few tablespoons of Chocolate in a Bowl. I then add enough agave to get it to a consistency that I like. I then add a tablespoon of almond butter, a tsp of cinnamon, a tsp of vanilla and a tablespoon of almond milk. Mix it all together and taste it to see if you need a little more of something. Add more agave if it's too thick, and more almond milk if it's too sticky. Once the base is ready scoop in a few tablespoons of rice krispies at a time. Stir the mixture and if there is a lot of left over chocolate, add more krispies :) This makes about 20-25 no bakes.
